Google Play Sign-up UI
The Problem
When signing up for Google Play activation, customers were experiencing confusion with locating the device's serial number, as well as understanding how to enter their mobile carrier. I was tasked with updating the UI copy to help clarify this sign-up process.
The Process
Using an A/B test to determine a possible solution, I made recommendations for alternative UI copy.
The Solution
Using brand standards as well as a quick competitive analysis, I made UI recommendations that were quickly implemented, resulting in an increase in overall program fulfillment rates.
Option A - My updated UI copy: including a Carrier field label and instructional "Select a Carrier" UI copy so customers can more easily understand the action needed, and a solution that I recommended with an image of the back of the package with the physical bar code outlined in red, and clear directions for the customer to locate the serial number on either the package or their phone. I also updated the CTA button to read "Submit" per the HTC program guidelines at that time.
Option B: The original version. Note the inconsistent Mobile Carrier label on the dropdown menu, the confusing serial number image that is actually supposed to be pointing to the back side of the package (not seen), and the redundant instructional copy in green. This version also uses "Enter" as the CTA, which didn't meet HTC program guidelines.
